New York, NY — Caring Across Generations co-director and National Domestic Workers Alliance Director Ai-jen Poo will be speaking at the White House United State of Women Summit on Tuesday, June 14, in Washington, DC. The panel, a Solution Seminar entitled “Valuing Caregiving in the 21st Century”, is a major component of the “Economic Opportunity” track for the event.
“It is always an honor to be invited to participate in White House events, but this Summit is particularly momentous,” said Ms. Poo. “Our growing movement for care has come a long way in lifting up the work that makes all other work possible. To see the White House devote an entire Solution Seminar to caregiving, a concern that especially affects women in deep and personal ways, is indicative of a social issue whose time has come. We have the opportunity to avert a looming national care crisis if we take thoughtful and intentional action now, and make great strides toward helping every family in America live well by fully recognizing the value care contributes to our communities and our economy.”
Cecelia Munoz, Assistant to the President and Director of the Domestic Policy Council, will moderate the panel. In addition to Ms. Poo, other panelists include Anne-Marie Slaughter, President and CEO of New America; Sheila Lirio Marcelo, founder, Chairwoman and CEO of Care.com; Kathleen Causey, Elizabeth Dole Foundation; Kweilin Elllingrud, McKinsey; Henriette Kolb, Head of the Gender Secretariat, IFC; Steve Schwab, Executive Director, Elizabeth Dole Foundation; and Kim Thomas, SEIU. The panel will take place 2:50pm – 3:50pm in room 204ABC.
