#Blog4Care: Tell us what caregivers need most

Category:

Calling all writers and bloggers! We are extending an open invitation to participate in our third #Blog4Care, in honor of National Family Caregivers Month in November. The topic? What caregivers need most.

This is the moment we are in: Millions of us are caregivers, whether for a loved one with a disability, an aging parent, a spouse, a relative, or a friend. And yet caregivers too often don’t receive the support they need, whether it’s from our friends and family members, our employers, or the social programs we rely on to help us with caregiving.

We will be publishing #Blog4Care posts on our website beginning on Saturday, November 1, 2014 and on a rolling basis as they are submitted, through the end of November. Do you have an opinion, analysis or personal story you want to share? Tell us and we’ll share it on our website!

If you or someone you know has had any of these experiences, we hope you will join #Blog4Care and share your story with us:

  • Are you a caregiver who wishes you had more support from your employer? What would that support look like?
  • Are you a member of the sandwich generation and a caregiver for an aging parent, and have experienced first-hand how confusing it is to navigate our long-term care system? What solutions would you like to see?
  • Do you worry about how you will care for an aging parent in the future? What supports do you wish already existed?
  • Are you a caregiver who is paid to take care of a loved one?
  • Are you a home care worker hired by a family to assist with caregiving?
  • Do you agree there needs to be more support for caregivers, aging Americans, and people with disabilities, and do you have ideas on what that could look like?

If you are interested in participating and having your blog post featured on our website, please see the detailed guidelines below. We will be posting and sharing posts beginning on Saturday, November 1, 2014 and through the end of the month.

The Instructions

CONTENT GUIDELINES: Caring Across Generations invites you to write stories and opinions from the personal to the political. We ask that you focus on the topic of this blog carnival, which is “What caregivers need most.” Blog posts can be just a few paragraphs or much longer, but we recommend your post be about 500 to 800 words.

Caring Across Generations appreciates original content and we are also happy to re-post previously written content as long as you add a sentence or two on why this post is relevant to this particular blog carnival.

WHAT TO SUBMIT ALONG WITH A POST: Please email the following information to Esther Wang by no later than Friday, November 14, 2014 at esther@caringacrossgenerations.org:

  • Confirmation that you’ve filled out this Terms of Use form: http://bit.ly/Blog4CareForm
  • The content of your post pasted in the body of the email, as an attachment, or a link to the URL for your post if it’s on your own website

TIMELINE: We will be posting the blog posts we receive on a rolling basis, beginning on Saturday, November 1, 2014 and through the end of November. While we will accept posts we receive at any point during the month, we ask that you submit your post as early as possible.

DETAILS ON THE TWEETING: Each #Blog4Care post will be tweeted and retweeted with pertinent hashtags. All tweets will be posted with the #Blog4Care hashtag. We encourage you to search for these tweets from @CaringAcrossGen to retweet them from your own account, and to comment using the appropriate hashtags and tagging @CaringAcrossGen in your tweet so we can respond easily to thank you! We also encourage you to send these tweets to those in your online community and to other bloggers to invite their tweets and comments.
