The Care Fellowship

The Care Fellowship is a leadership development and recruitment project that cultivates the advocacy and communications skills of family caregivers. Our Care Fellows represent some of the most dedicated caregiver activists in the Caring Across Generations network.

Led by their innate expertise drawn from their lived experiences and ideas, Care Fellows are changing the way caregiving is seen, valued, and supported in the United States.

In 2019, we started the fellowship with only 8 fellows, and have grown it into a multi-racial, intergenerational cohort of more than 100, with several state-based cohorts leading change in their own states!

Hi. I’m Geanie. I’m a native Californian from the Central Valley. Being on the older end of GenXers we were raised to take care of others. You babysat at 10, took care of your little sisters, or your mom when she was sick. My earliest memory of being a caregiver was having a stool placed next to the washer so I could reach the knobs to do laundry when my mom couldn’t. By the age of 10, I ran a house and took care of my younger sisters. You were always available to grandma. I miss her. Life comes full circle and now I have a caregiver. I have a good understanding of both sides and there’s a value in sharing that experience with others. I’ve been retired for a few years. My background is in event planning, marketing and media buying.
