Caring Across Generations, a national movement of families, caregivers, people with disabilities and aging Americans working to transform the way we care in this country, joins the more than 700 groups and individuals supporting the “We Are Better Than This” campaign, calling for an end to rising hate and divisiveness in public discourse.

Securing Basic Protections for Home Care Workers Is Crucial to Strengthening Critical, Growing Workforce

As DOL moves to update federal overtime rules, two million home care workers continue to be excluded from minimum wage and overtime.

With this ruling, home care workers around the country may have to wait even longer for basic labor protections that could lift them out of poverty. States should not wait until this dispute is resolved.

Caring Across Generations applauds President Obama for taking a tremendous step forward for securing the eldercare workforce we need for a stronger economy and more secure future. This action is especially critical for the wellbeing of older Americans and people with disabilities – and for the millions of aging Baby Boomers who will need care in the coming years.

“These new regulations are a historic step forward toward a future in which our families and communities can be supported by a strong and stable care workforce," said Ai-Jen Poo, Director of National Domestic Workers Alliance and Co-Director of Caring Across Generations.

Hundreds of home care workers from California to New York and from all sectors of the industry gathered in St. Louis the past two days for a historic summit on the future of care. The Home Care Workers Rising Summit was convened by Caring Across in partnership with national labor unions, consumer and disability rights advocates, to focus on the growing national movement for quality care.
