ADVISORY: Sen. Laphonza Butler to Address Caregivers and Care Workers At 2023 CareFest

Category:

Los Angeles — Senator Laphonza Butler will address the importance of caregivers and care workers as part of her keynote on November 3, 2023 as part of CareFest, a two-day in-person summit focused on the future of caregiving. The first-of-its-kind event convened by Caring Across Generations is at the Luskin Conference Center at UCLA where 500 cultural influencers, corporate partners, policymakers, researchers, philanthropists and care advocates will share their personal care experiences and identify opportunities to make the issue more visible in our pop culture and more accessible in our communities and workplaces.

SenButler grew up watching her mom work as a direct care worker and then continued to advocate for care as president of SEIU California and the nation’s largest homecare workers union, SEIU Local 2015. During her tenure she achieved historic victories, including passing the nation’s first $15 statewide minimum wage. SenButler is the first labor union president to work in the Senate in 60 years and is committed to continuing to fight for workers in Congress.

The event is open to the media.

Caring Across Generations is a national organization of family caregiverscare workers, disabled people, and aging adults working to transform the way we care in this country so that care is accessible, affordable and equitable — and our systems of care enable everyone to live and age with dignity. To achieve our vision, we transform cultural norms and narratives about aging, disability and care; win federal and state-level policies; and build power amongst the people touched by care.
