Ferndale resident Ann Serafin, who was diagnosed 26 years ago with multiple sclerosis, has lived the struggle of balancing her own health care costs on top of the health care costs of her parents.
But without the help of public programs like Medicare and Medicaid, things would’ve been much worse, she said. “Without Medicare, I would have had to decide: do I eat, or do I get my meds?”
Serafin was one of six people who spoke Thursday in Washington, D.C., where U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow, D-MI, Elizabeth Warren, D-MA, and Patty Murray, D-WA, hosted a forum on how taxpayers would be hurt by healthcare repeal and the policies supported by U.S. Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.
Congressman Price has supported potential cuts to programs like Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
