Bipartisan Budget Agreement Protects Medicaid for 21 Million People
WASHINGTON D.C. – In response to President Biden signing the Fiscal Responsibility Act, Nicole Jorwic, chief of advocacy and campaigns at Caring Across Generations, released the following statement:
“We applaud President Biden for signing the Fiscal Responsibility Act into law avoiding a devastating default, and we are thrilled that attacks on Medicaid by MAGA extremists were excluded. While this is a huge win, we should never have been in this position to begin with. Millions of people’s livelihoods should never be threatened because of political games.
“The bottom line is Medicaid shouldn’t need saving. The American people have demonstrated, over and over, that we do not want cuts to our health care. It should be the standard in our country to support our disabled and aging community members, no questions asked. We have to stop allowing our political debates to use people’s lives as a way to score points. We should be the type of country that protects older adults, disabled people and children, not one that puts their needs up for debate.
“Our work doesn’t end here. We will never accept cuts to Medicaid. And now that Medicaid is protected, we’ll continue our fight to end waiting lists for aging and disability care and to demand Congress expand care access through Medicaid so that everyone has the care they deserve when and where they need it.”

About Caring Across Generations
Caring Across Generations is a national organization of family caregivers, care workers, disabled people, and aging adults working to transform the way we care in this country so that care is accessible, affordable and equitable— and our systems of care enable everyone to live and age with dignity.
To achieve our vision, we transform cultural norms and narratives about aging, disability and care; win federal and state-level policies; and build power amongst the people touched by care. For more information, visit CARINGACROSS.ORG.
